Is Sugar Natural?

Sugar seems like a natural food and natural foods are good for you…right?

Well it might be natural but it’s addictive and creates inflammation throughout your body.  Sugar just plain messes with us.  Our liver doesn’t use it as fuel for energy so it ends up turning sugar into fat.  When we eat sugar, it effects our appetite hormones too.

It’s like crack! When we eat sugar, it tells our brain we are not satiated and triggers us to want more.  It creates a condition in our body to continue to crave it after you have eaten “insert your sugary treat”.  If you look at trends in our food system, as the consumption of sugar rises so does obesity.  Sugar is just making us sick!  There are so many conditions that can be tied to sugar.  Only a few are listed here:

  • Tooth decay
  • Weight gain
  • Accelerated aging
  • Skin problems and wrinkles
  • Insomnia
  • Dizziness
  • Allergies
  • Hair loss

I know it’s hard to give up when it’s everywhere but you will be amazed at how you feel without it.  When I cut out sugar from my diet, my body thanked me with clearer skin and improved eczema.  I became clear headed and actually could hear my body tell me when I was hungry or full.  Throughout my life, I had always had sensitive skin.  No wonder because I have always loved candy as a child and into adulthood.

It was the number one thing that helped my perimenopause nausea.  I tried natural approaches but nothing worked.  Sucking on that jolly rancher was the only thing that seemed to keep the nausea at bay.  When I went back to school to become a Health Coach I learned how bad sugar really is.  I am happy to report I’m no longer am addicted to sugar.  Now, I can turn down that chocolate bar if I chose to.  I can eat just one bite and not the whole bag.  It was not easy but if you give yourself a chance you would be surprised.

Gift yourself a detox from sugar.  Find your food freedom and give it up!
